Hello out there in Blogger world. Tonight I am happy to announce that I have joined in with the fellow artists of the world and tried my hand at mixed media. What is MIXED MEDIA? I'm glad you asked, I found on wikipedia this answer...Mixed media tends to refer to a work of visual art that combines various traditionally distinct visual art media. For example, a work on canvas that combines paint, ink, and collage could properly be called a "mixed media" work ..So there I was with the definition and no idea were to begin. SO ! I went shopping !! I went to Micheal's arts and crafts and found a 8 pack of 12x16 canvas that didn't seen to daunting. I knew in my head that I wanted to make my favorite poem by Christina Rossetti come to life in my art, and I knew the daisies were like stars in a sky of green in the poem so next I went to paints, I got Apple Barrel Acrylic Paints in light green , dark green, yellow, light blue and dark blue..so I knew I had what I needed to get started so back home I went to create. I took the paint and right out of the bottle I added dark green and light green to the bottom of the canvas and blended them together then the dark blue and green in the middle and the light blue and light green at the top, I blending it all until it just looked like blades of grass covering the canvas I made sure to go up and down. Then..this is always the fun part,I started going through everything I own looking for anything daisy..I found fabric flowers by Prima Flowers, patterned paper by Imaginisce, daisy chains by Imaginisce,White daisies to cut out of a die cut by KI memories , daisies by Jolees by you and EK Success.Metal daisies by Making Memories, 3d flowers by K and Company, I found one white daisy button, not sure who made it and then grabbed Mister Huey's Shine, and Opaque white, I also got out my Cutter Bees because I knew I had a lot of cutting to do to cut out all the daisies Id need to use out of the patterned papers. I used pattern paper from Making Memories for the leaves, it was light green with green polka dots, I cant say no to polka dots :)
As I cut out the flowers I wanted to use I tried them out in different places on the canvas. I knew I wanted the softness of ribbon in work so I picked out a few I had,one is a websters pages ribbon but the rest just stuff I had ..After I cut out a bunch of daisies and leaves I started placing them all around the canvas so Id get a feel for where id want it. I had to use my mini Iron by Heidi swapp, all the ribbon was a mess and that little iron gets it all straight and usable for me. for the daisies that didn't already have a yellow center I used Adirondack Dabber in Sunshine yellow, It really was a nice project to be working on :) After I glued every flower and stem into place I sprayed on Mister Hueys Shine and Opaque white, it added lots of shine to my page and depth to the layers of daisies I was trying to make . my favorite poem goes like this.....Where innocent bright eyed daisies are...with blades of grass between, Each Daisy stands up like a star, Out of the Sky of Green. Isn't that just the prettiest thing ever ! I just love it and I had to make me a sky of green with daisy stars to guide my way. I had so much fun making this piece, its so refreshing to make something that will leave people behind me thinking about my favorite poem and the amazing women that wrote them. My goal is to make at least one mixed media art a week in my mixed media journal ( I also got that at Micheal's arts and crafts to ) I used a few types of glue products that I had on hand , Glue Dots and Mono glue. Id guess it took me around 5 hours to get this done. I really love it and I cant wait to make my next project. I think tomorrow I will pic another Poem that I really love and try to make a piece that matches it. What do you use for inspiration? Ill post tomorrows creation online when I am done. I hope you are enjoying following me and please know I dont get a thing to tell you what products it is I am using I am only telling you because Ive tried so many types and I am really happy with the products I use now and I want to share them with you .Let me know if there is something youd like me to read about. Good night. Paula
